About
Us
We are so much more than a volunteer search
engine. We are a vibrant office located in an historic community
center, in a service-oriented city. Some days we are a drop-off
site for the food drives, book drives and holiday gift-giving
programs we run. Other days we are a training center for volunteer
managers who work at the more than 100 agencies we serve. At times
we are matchmakers--matching donations of furniture, computers,
vehicles, etc. with agencies who need them. Often we are community
leaders--partnering with cities, schools, religious and community
organizations to plan “Days of Service” and special outreach
projects. But most days we are a destination; a place for people
of all ages, and all walks of life, to come and talk about HOW to
volunteer.
Sometimes we talk over a cup of coffee,
other times by phone or email. However we connect--it’s always
through conversation. Our dedicated referral consultants and staff
stay abreast of trends in volunteering and think creatively in
order to provide thoughtful suggestions for making effective use
of a volunteer’s time and talent. For individuals who want
instant gratification--there’s always our CALENDAR! A monthly
calendar of opportunities, updated around-the-clock by our member
agencies. Simply click on the day of the month you’re interested
in volunteering and a list of opportunities for that day will
appear.
More than anything we’re an organization
that has made volunteerism its priority for more than 40 years.
With the President’s Call to Serve, the signing of the Edward M.
Kennedy Serve America Act, the nightly news features on Making a
Difference, the entertainment industry’s launch of
iparticipate.org, and so much more... volunteerism has never had a
brighter spotlight or louder megaphone. This makes us very happy.
