We are pleased
to announce the newest program from the Volunteer Center of Lake
Forest/Lake Bluff... Service Station!
The mission of the Service Station is to provide residents with an all inclusive volunteer opportunity. A
one-stop service destination, the Service Station will meet
quarterly to complete a project for a neighboring non-profit.
Each quarter, we choose the agency, the service project, and take
care of all the details - you just stop in and serve!
WHAT IS
IT?
A one-stop
service destination, the Service Station will meet quarterly to
complete a project for a neighboring non-profit. Each
quarter, we choose the agency, the service project, and take care
of all the details - you just Stop In & Serve!
WHO
CAN PARTICIPATE?
Anyone 12 and
up is invited to serve, though children 12 to 15 years old must be
accompanied by an adult. This is a perfect volunteer
opportunity for those without the time or inclination to commit to
ongoing service with just one agency.
WHEN
IS IT?
Saturday, April 18, 9:00-11:00a.m.
WHERE DO
WE MEET? WHAT WILL WE DO?
This quarter we will be helping Community Social Services prepare
their yard for a new garden, or, if its rainy outside, we will be
cleaning and painting the foyer. Community Social Services
provides food, clothing, shelter, and resources to the homeless
and low-income families of Lake County.
We will meet at 8:30am at the Volunteer Center office in Gorton
Community Center to travel to Community Social Services
together. Community Social Services is located at
912 8th Street in Waukegan.
PAST
SERVICE STATION EVENTS
On Saturday, October 18 the Service Station convened for our inaugural
project. An amazing group of people became members of the
Service Station & traveled to Holy Family Food Pantry
to sort & wrap gifts for Christmastime distribution.
Thanks to our hard-working members we wrapped TWO HUNDRED AND EIGHTY
TWO gifts! We are grateful to Barb Karacic, Director of
Holy Family Food Pantry for giving us a tour of the food pantry
& an overview of the hunger crisis in Lake County. Three
cheers for our members for taking the time to make a difference in
the lives of others!
