2009 HUGS Food Drive
Since 2004, thousands of residents of Lake County have pitched in
to provide direct food aid to food pantries and families in need
through the Kristen Hughes HUGS Food Drive. In November 2009, a
record amount of food was collected and distributed through
neighborhood food drives and schools. More than 4,800 lbs of food,
including 504 “Thanksgiving Suppers”, was delivered to four food
pantries in North Chicago, Waukegan and Zion. The four recipient
food pantries were overwhelmed by the amount of donations this year,
especially considering the challenging economic times. A special
thank you to the following schools, churches, local businesses and
residents for making this drive an overwhelming success:
